2021 Annual Report of Artificial Intelligence Surgery

Artificial Intelligence Surgery (AIS, Online ISSN: 2771-0408) was officially released online in January 2021 and published its inaugural issue in December 2021. AIS aims to become a cutting-edge platform for publishing papers in artificial intelligence (AI) in surgery, focusing on the interface of computers and the art of surgery, such as smart surgical technology/digital surgery, computer-assisted surgical systems and surgical data science, etc.

Under the leadership of Prof. Andrew Gumbs, the Editor-in-Chief, the active cooperation of all Editorial Board members, and the assistance of in-house Editors, AIS has achieved fruitful results. At the end of 2021, the Editorial Office summarized and reviewed the important footprints and details of AIS:

1. Footprints:
On 10 March, 2021, the Inaugural Online Editorial Board Meeting of AIS was successfully completed.
On 29 July, 2021, AIS held an online webinar on "White paper regulating autonomous actions in surgery".
On 22 October, 2021, Prof. Carla Pugh was elected as a "member of the National Academy of Medicine", and interviewed by the Editorial Office of MIS.
On 18 November, 2021, “Artificial Intelligence Surgery and the Promise of Autonomous Actions First Annual Webinar of the journal Artificial Intelligence Surgery” was successfully held.
On 30 November, 2021, Associate Editor Dr. Isabella Frigerio constructed the first special issue of “Women in Surgery Meets AIS Journal”.
On 17 December, 2021, we have launched the inaugural issue of AIS.

2. Editorial Board:
57 Editorial Board members are from 19 countries/regions, including the United States(21.1%), Germany(21.1%), Italy(17.5%), France(12.3%), and other 15 countries/regions.

3. Readership:
Our readers come from all over the world, including the United States, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, China, etc.

4. Published Articles
Total publications: 5
Total article views: 5,679
Total article downloads: 841
Average manuscript processing time: An average time of 37 days from submission to acceptance, and an average time of 47 days from submission to publication.
