Special Issue Introduction

Surgical robots have brought infinite possibilities to the operating room. The surgical robot is able to control the trajectory, depth, and speed of its motion with great precision. Furthermore, they are particularly suitable for programs that require repetitive movements, because they can work without fatigue. The robot can also remain completely stationary as needed and go to places inaccessible to conventional tools. The skills and knowledge that surgeons accumulate during their careers may be hampered by the loss of motor skills. However, collaborative robots can help reduce the effects of hand tremor and avoid unintentional or accidental movements. Artificial intelligence can identify patterns during surgery to ensure best practices and increase the control accuracy of surgical robots to submillimeter accuracy. Artificial intelligence is also used with machine vision to analyze scans and detect cancer cases. Therefore, this Special Issue will explore the current development and future trends of surgical robots.
